Trainings

The Center has developed a unique approach to conflict resolution through deepening the parties’ understanding of themselves, each other, and the conflict in which they are ensnared. This model is used in commercial and family mediation, collaborative practice, nonprofit organizations, and other settings in which professionals are helping parties work through conflict.
Programs are open to attorneys as well as other professionals working to integrate the principles of understanding-based conflict resolution into their practice or work. We can also create customized trainings responsive to the interests of a particular community.

Mediation Trainings

The Mediation Intensive Training provides both experienced mediators and those new to the field with the perspective and skills necessary to work within the Center's model of mediation. Our advanced trainings include: Contracting, Communication and Conflict Patterns, Role of the Law and Lawyers, and EndGame: From Interests to Agreement.

Collaborative Trainings

Our collaborative trainings are usually arranged by regional collaborative practice groups for their members and guests. The trainings can be customized to meet the needs of the collaborative practice group and typically are 2-3 day trainings.

Non-profit Organization Trainings

We also conduct programs within nonprofit and spiritual organizations to educate people on how to deal with interpersonal conflict within the organization.

Support and Development Groups

Through monthly ongoing Support and Development groups, the Center provides continued supervision for those who have completed the Mediation Intensive Training in the application of the understanding-based approach to both mediation and collaborative practice.

Self Reflection for Conflict Professionals

We seek to support experienced mediators, collaborative professionals, and/or lawyers interested in making a significant commitment to developing their skills in self-reflection as applied to working with people in conflict.

International Training

Center trainers have conducted mediation training programs in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria and Israel in conjunction with our Partners in Understanding—colleagues who bring a similar spirit and approach to the development of mediation in their countries.
